A Professor of Mechanical Engineering from the University of Michigan in the United States of America called on the Vice-Chancellor, Professor William O. Ellis, with the objective of enhancing institutional collaboration and research activities with KNUST.
Professor Elijah Kannatey-Asibu who is also an alumnus of KNUST, stated that the University of Michigan shares a common vision with the KNUST, and disclosed that it is against this background that a partnership on research activities had already been established with the Energy Centre of the College of Engineering to initiate projects such as "Low Cost Wind Turbines and Solar Energy".
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ellis, identified corporate exposure as a major challenge of KNUST and stressed the need for a paradigm change. He, therefore, commended the visiting Professor for the collaboration and hoped for more deliberations in the future.
In another development, a Registrar from Chinhoyi University of Technology (CUT) in Zimbabwe, Mr. Thomas B. Bhebhe, paid a courtesy call on the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ellis, and some selected units, colleges and faculties of the University.
In a statement, Mr. Bhebhe intimated that the Chinhoyi University of Technology was established in 2002,and noted that his mission is to officially study the modus operandi, the corporate strategic plan and organizational structure of KNUST so as to chart a new path in the administration of CUT. Other areas of interest to him during his visit were staff development, admission exercise and the management of distance learning programmes.
Meanwhile, Mr. Bhebhe attributed Zimbabwe's instability to political reasons which usually emanate from general elections. Out of the nation's twelve million (12, 000, 000) population, about 94% are literate, he disclosed. He gave the assurance that the CUT would foster partnership with KNUST and undertake a Memorandum of Understanding in order to commence collaborative research activities, staff and student exchange programmes.
On his part, Professor R.C. Abaidoo, the Provost of College of Agriculture and Natural Resources, hinted that Agric Business has become a competitive programme in the College, "Landscaping is a new path for the College", he noted. He used the opportunity to commend the Zimbabwean Government for its achievement in education and agriculture.
The Dean of KNUST School of Business, Mr. Magnus Frimpong, asserted that the School is essentially for postgraduate programmes. There are about 1200 postgraduate students pursuing various options in the MBA programme, he stated.
Among the sections Mr. Bhebhe visited are Academic Affairs, Human Resource Development, International Programmes Office and the Finance Office. The rest are College of Engineering, College of Agriculture and Natural Resources, KNUST School of Business, Institute of Distance Learning and Faculty of Social Sciences.
